They are aphorisms that express the judgments and experiences of our ancestors based on long trials, as wise thoughts or advice, and have stereotyped forms, adopted by everyone. Proverbs are the life philosophy of a certain society and/or all humanity. Emotions such as love, jealousy, selfishness, friendship and hostility found in people are universal.
The characteristics of proverbs can be listed as follows:
The speaker of proverbs is unknown, proverbs are the common property of the people.
It expresses the people's thoughts.
Proverbs are stereotyped words. For this reason, the words that make up the proverb cannot be replaced with other words, and the order of the words cannot be changed.
They have a firm attitude.
They are convincing.
They were born from the trials that the broad masses of people have gone through for centuries and the thoughts resulting from these trials.
They are simple words, their explanations are clear.
They report the occurrence of natural events.
They instill morality and teach them to be moral.
They consist of one or two sentences.
Many of them contain metaphors.
There are figures of speech in proverbs.
Since they are proven words, their truth is accepted by everyone.
